Smokey Quartz
We have a beautiful selection of Smokey Quartz imported from Brazil in our shop as well as online.
Smoky quartz from Brazil is highly prized for its natural beauty and unique characteristics. This variety of quartz is known for its brown to deep gray shades, which form when clear quartz is exposed to natural radiation over time. Brazilian smoky quartz is often sought after by collectors and enthusiasts for its clarity, structure, and natural formation
Smoky quartz forms when clear quartz crystals are naturally exposed to radiation from surrounding rocks that contain radioactive elements like uranium or thorium. This radiation interacts with the silicon dioxide in quartz and creates free silicon, which absorbs light in a way that gives the crystal its characteristic smoky hue.
The process takes millions of years and typically occurs in granite-rich environments, where conditions are ideal for both quartz formation and exposure to low-level natural radiation. The intensity of the smoky color depends on the level and duration of radiation exposure.
It's fascinating how natural processes like this can create such striking and unique gemstones!
Smoky quartz is an affordable gemstone, making it accessible for those who want to add a touch of elegance to their collection.

We often find Black Amethyst at the Diamond Willow Amethyst Mine and has similar colours as the Smokey Quartz however the Crystal structure of the Smokey Quartz we import is very different than our traditional Amethyst that we sometimes find with the Red, deep purple and violet colours. We really love to import beautiful minerals as it complements our Amethyst extremely well.
