Amethyst clusters are very beautiful and exciting to find when we are mining. These are generally found inside cavities under the bedrock called vugs. The vugs are lined with quartz and were created as a result of volcanic activity. When things started to cool down Amethyst was formed in these quartz lined vugs. When we find a large enough vug that becomes exposed they are usually mud packed and we then have to carefully pull these clusters out. These can range in sizes depending on the size of the vug from the size of a dime to the size of a watermelon.
